You are onboarding IQ, not the other way around
Think of IQ as a new hire, a sharp one, your Chief Data Officer, who showed up on day one knowing the restoration industry cold but knowing nothing about your business yet. IQ is an AI that works exclusively for you, and like any new hire it gets useful in proportion to what you show it. Verinode is built around that frame: you do not fill out a giant setup form before the product will talk to you. Instead, every section of the platform teaches itself, asks for one thing at a time, and shows you something real the moment you hand it over.
The important mental shift is the direction of the onboarding. The product is not onboarding you. You are onboarding IQ, the way you would bring a new operations hire up to speed: show it your renewals, show it your P&L, show it a sub's COI, introduce it to your crew. Every ask on the platform is phrased that way on purpose, and every ask pays for itself immediately with something IQ can now watch or read for you.
The three surfaces that carry it
Each section that learns this way onboards itself through the same three surfaces, and once you recognize them in one section you will recognize them everywhere.
A one-time intro, the first time you open the section. Shortly after you land on a section for the first time, a short click-through walks you through what the section does, what turns on as you add your records, what to have handy, and a live first step you can complete right there, often in under a minute. It fires once per person per section, you can skip it anytime, and you can replay it whenever you want. The full walkthrough is in the first-visit intro.
A progress row that stays until IQ knows the section. On the section's home page, a row titled Get IQ Up To Speed shows how much of this part of your business IQ knows so far, plus a tile for each remaining step with its own Add button. The row is not a permanent fixture: once IQ is up to speed on the section, the whole row retires rather than sitting at full forever. It is covered in the Get IQ Up To Speed row.
A task in your Feed that advances on its own. Every section you have switched on keeps exactly one setup card in your Feed, named for its current next step ("Show IQ your P&L," "Teach IQ your renewals"). Complete a step, in the Feed or anywhere else, and the card advances to the next one by itself; finish the section and the card resolves itself without you touching it. See setup tasks in your Feed.
A few sections skip the wait entirely and open with an instant, typed first step: Margin shows you where your net margin stands for your size, Vendors shows you how a tool you already run scores, Team starts with a two-minute work-style check, and Clients looks up a carrier you work with. None of those requires an upload, and each one is real data, not a placeholder.
The line that matters: your steps versus the network's
Everything a section can learn falls on one side of a crucial line, and the product renders the two sides differently on purpose.
Steps you can close yourself. These are the ones that appear as tasks and tiles, and every one of them tells you three things: where you stand, what it takes, and the specific artifact that closes it, named by tool where one exists, a P&L export from QuickBooks, a job cost export from your job management system, a sub's COI or a photo of it, your insurance declaration pages. Each step also names what it buys you: renewal reminders, a coverage-gap flag, job-level margin, a warning before a sub's insurance lapses. If a step is open, it is open because a specific document or answer has not arrived yet, and the step says exactly which one.
Network comparisons that fill in on their own. Peer comparisons, how your margin, your coverage, or your days to pay stack up against operators like you, are a different class entirely. They appear as more operators contribute, and there is nothing for you to do about them. They are never counted against you: they do not appear in the Get IQ Up To Speed count, they never show up as tasks in your Feed, and an intro screen lists them in a muted style with the plain note "Appears as more operators contribute." A section can be fully up to speed, with the progress row retired, while its peer comparison is still filling in, and that is not something missing from your data.
Note
If a surface is quiet, it should always tell you which side of that line it is on. A step you can close names its artifact. A network comparison says it appears as more operators contribute. Silence with no explanation is a bug, not a policy.
Where suggestions fit
You do not have to onboard every section at once, and the platform will not push you to. Verinode holds off suggesting a new section entirely while any section you already have switched on still has nothing filled in, and then promotes exactly one at a time. How that pacing works is covered in how section suggestions work.
