Broadest Network Footprint is a row of tiles on the TPAs page that ranks third-party administrators (TPAs) by one measure only: how many of your memberships have a job on file with that TPA. It is not sorted by dollars billed, not by admin fee, and not by how fast a TPA pays out. It is sorted purely by reach, how widely a single TPA already touches your network.
A TPA processes and pays claims on a carrier's behalf rather than the carrier handling it directly. Reach matters here for the same reason it matters on the carriers side: a TPA that only a couple of your memberships happen to route claims through is a handful of separate, disconnected relationships. A TPA that shows up across a wide share of the network is a single relationship the network has in common, and a large, common relationship is what supports a network-level conversation about fee posture or turnaround time instead of leaving every membership to raise it alone. Verinode surfaces where that shared footprint sits. It does not negotiate with the TPA or decide what to do with the leverage, HQ leadership does.

TPAs is one of three Accounts tabs, alongside Carriers (the insurer that ultimately owns the policy) and Commercial (clients who pay directly, no insurance claim involved). Accounts is the revenue-in side of the network, distinct from Vendors (money going out) and the asset pages (equipment and facilities the network owns).
What each tile shows
Every tile in the row is one TPA. This row never breaks a TPA relationship down to the membership level, it is a per-TPA rollup, one tile per counterparty, aggregated across every membership that has a job on file with it.
Each tile shows:
- Headline, the TPA's name.
- Label (top of the tile), the franchisee count, read literally: "N franchisees" (or "1 franchisee" if only one). This is the footprint number the row is sorted on, the reason the TPA appears here at all.
- Sub line, the job count over the trailing 36 months, formatted as "N job(s) (36mo)".
- Meta line, the dollars billed through that TPA over the same 36-month window, formatted compactly (for example,
$1.2Mor$340k). If no billing has been recorded for that TPA yet, this line is blank.
The tiles are ordered strictly by franchisee count, highest first, and only TPAs with at least one franchisee on record are eligible to appear at all. Up to 8 TPAs show in this row. A TPA with 30 memberships behind it and modest billing sits ahead of a TPA with 2 memberships and heavy billing, because this row answers "how many locations already route claims through this TPA," not "which TPA processes the most dollars." Clicking a tile opens that TPA's detail overlay, layered on top of the page, the same overlay you reach from any other row on this page. This footprint row is only concerned with ranking by reach; the overlay itself (score, fee terms, payment speed, supplement pushback, per-membership participation) is out of scope for this article.
How to read it against the other TPAs rows
The TPAs page stacks five sections top to bottom, each answering a different question about the same TPA set:
- Hero band (top), network-wide totals: total TPA count, total billed over 36 months, average admin fee, and the network's average days-to-pay.
- Slowest Payers, TPAs ranked by the slowest average days-to-pay, the collections-risk lens.
- Broadest Network Footprint, TPAs ranked by franchisee count, the reach lens. This article.
- Heaviest Pushback, TPAs ranked by supplement dollars denied, the claims-friction lens.
- All TPAs, every TPA the network has a rolled-up relationship with, sorted by total dollars billed, the size lens, with each tile also showing the TPA's average days-to-pay and its admin fee.
A TPA can appear in more than one row. A TPA with wide footprint that also shows up in Slowest Payers or Heaviest Pushback is a stronger case for a network-level conversation than either signal on its own, since it means a fee or turnaround problem is not isolated to one membership's experience, it is shared across a large slice of the network. The hero band's footprint number
The hero band at the top of the TPAs page carries its own, coarser version of this same signal: a status pill reading "N multi-franchisee", the count of TPAs served by more than one membership across the entire network (not just the top 8 shown in the row below). If no TPA has more than one membership on file yet, the pill reads "No data yet" instead. This is the headline version of the story the footprint row breaks out tile by tile.
The hero also carries a summary sentence: the number of jobs across the network in the last 36 months, how many landed in the last 30 days (only shown when nonzero), and the network's top TPA by billed dollars (only shown once one exists). Before any TPA data exists at all, that sentence is replaced with: "TPA data will appear as franchisees record TPA-administered claims."
Two dollar figures sit beside the hero's headline count. Billed 36mo is the network's total billed dollars through every TPA over the trailing 36 months, with collected dollars underneath once a collection figure exists. Avg admin fee is the network's average TPA administration fee, averaged across every reporting membership, shown as "Awaiting fee data" until at least one fee figure is on file. TPAs charge this fee for administering a claim on the carrier's behalf, in addition to whatever the carrier itself pays out, so it is a cost line specific to this tab and does not appear on the Carriers hero.
The privacy boundary: why this is a rollup, not a client list
Verinode HQ is a network intelligence layer, not a system that exposes any one membership's private client relationships to leadership. The footprint row respects that boundary in two ways.
First, everything here is a per-TPA rollup. You see "TPA X serves N memberships," never a per-membership list of which specific membership routes claims through which TPA, inside this row.
Second, a cohort floor protects small counts. In a network where memberships are independent operators rather than commonly owned locations, a TPA served by only a small handful of memberships risks identifying which specific membership that is, by elimination, even without naming anyone. Verinode applies a minimum-cohort floor before a TPA row is eligible to appear anywhere on this page, including this row: TPAs below that floor are held back rather than shown thin. You will not see the exact floor number in the product, and this article will not state it, the point is qualitative: sparse relationships are protected, not exposed.
When rows are suppressed this way, the hero band's summary sentence tells you the long tail exists without naming it, appending "N hidden as single-franchisee" after the main sentence. That note only appears when at least one TPA was held back, so its absence means nothing was suppressed.
Franchise and enterprise networks, where every location is the same legal entity, do not need this floor, since there is no separate business owner to protect. Independent-operator networks (association and franchise models where memberships are independently owned) get the floor by default, and it stays on unless HQ's account is explicitly configured otherwise. That same fork is what decides, inside a TPA's detail overlay, whether a per-membership breakdown shows real membership names or anonymized ones.
Empty states
If no TPA has been registered with more than one membership serving it, the row itself never shows an empty message on its own, since per-TPA rollups can still exist with only single-franchisee TPAs, which the cohort floor would then suppress from view. If the whole page has no TPA relationships rolled up at all, this row shows:
"Network footprint by TPA will appear once franchisees register their TPA relationships."
This is a wait-for-data state, not a broken row. TPA relationships surface once memberships have billed claims that were administered by a TPA and that activity has flowed through the nightly network rollup. Verinode does not prompt memberships to manually register a TPA list, the relationships appear from the jobs and billing already flowing in.
How to use it
Use Broadest Network Footprint to answer one question: which TPA relationships are shared widely enough across the network to justify a conversation at the HQ level, on fee posture or turnaround, rather than leaving each membership to raise it on its own? A TPA at the top of this row, especially one that also shows up in Slowest Payers or Heaviest Pushback, is a candidate for a network-level fee conversation or a documentation standard, initiated by leadership, not by Verinode. Verinode surfaces where the leverage sits; deciding what to do with it stays with HQ.
Note
Reach and quality are separate questions. A TPA can serve many memberships and still be a slow payer or a heavy supplement-cutter. Check Slowest Payers and Heaviest Pushback before treating a wide footprint as automatically a good relationship.
