What it is
Get oriented is the first card you can act on in your Feed, sitting right after the welcome photo card and before Tune your feed. It is a short, plain-English table of contents for how Verinode works, and it is the on-request entry point to the six-slide Welcome to Verinode tour: the same tour that runs once automatically right after signup, but here you can open it again, any time, for as long as you are still finishing onboarding.
The card exists because a lot lands on you in the first session: an inbox address to forward documents to, a stack of starter tasks, the idea that Verinode earns your trust in stages, and the promise of benchmarks once your data is in. Get oriented lets you walk back through all of it at your own pace instead of trying to remember a modal you clicked through once.
Where to find it
Open Feed from the sidebar, at /feed. Get oriented appears only on the All filter, as the second full-height card in the scrolling stack: the welcome photo card comes first, Get oriented second (while it is still active), then Tune your feed, then your actual feed items. Scroll down (or press the down arrow or j) from the welcome card to reach it.
Get oriented is one of the few cards on this page built as a single framed panel rather than flowing flat, the same treatment as Tune your feed right below it. Everything inside it (the header, the six-stop list, the two buttons) sits in that one card, with hairline dividers between the numbered rows rather than nested boxes.
What is on the card
- Eyebrow label: "Start Here," next to the small Verinode IQ mark in a copper-tinted square.
- Title: "Get oriented."
- Intro line: "A two-minute tour of how we'll work together, where to find what, and how to get your first data in. Come back to it any time."
- A numbered list of six stops, each with a small teal-outlined number badge:
1. Meet IQ, your Co-COO 2. How your data flows in 3. Starting small, earning trust 4. Your first tasks 5. How decisions and action plans work 6. Where you rank against operators your size
- Two buttons: Take the tour (primary) opens the six-slide tour described below. Not now (ghost) dismisses the card for good.
The six-item list is a preview, not a set of six separate links: clicking any part of the card, or the Take the tour button, opens the full tour starting from slide one.
The six-slide tour
Take the tour opens a modal titled "Welcome to Verinode." A progress line at the top reads "Welcome to Verinode · 1 of 6" (through "6 of 6" as you advance), with a Skip link beside it that closes the tour at any point. Six small dots along the bottom track your position: click a dot to jump straight to that slide. Back and Next buttons sit bottom right (Back is hidden on the first slide), and the left and right arrow keys move between slides too. The final slide's button reads Get started instead of Next.
Here is what each slide covers:
- 1Welcome to Verinode. IQ introduces itself in the first person: "I'm IQ, and I'll be your Co-COO here. Give me a minute to show you how we'll work together. You can skip ahead whenever you like." This is the "Meet IQ, your Co-COO" stop from the card.
- 2We'll spend the next few weeks getting me up to speed. Explains that IQ learns your business from the data you share with it, and that there is no rush. This slide shows your personal forwarding address (the same inbox address used elsewhere in the product) and three ways data reaches Verinode: email documents, upload in app, or capture a photo or video. This is "How your data flows in."
- 3I'd rather earn your trust. IQ frames this as a working relationship, not a blank check: "I don't expect you to trust me on day one." It suggests starting with a few low-stakes moves, like dropping in a P&L, forwarding a vendor invoice, or sending a recent job export, so you see how Verinode handles data before you hand over anything that matters. This is "Starting small, earning trust."
- 4Your first tasks are already waiting. Points you back to the Feed, where a handful of starter tasks are waiting, mostly quick ways to get your first data in. It also flags that finishing setup and feeding IQ your first documents earns bonus Intelligence Units, extra capacity for the decisions and analysis you'll work through together. Tasks can be done in any order. This is "Your first tasks."
- 5How we'll get things done. Lays out the core loop: IQ surfaces something worth acting on as a decision in your Feed, you decide whether to act, and if you do, IQ drafts a full action plan (steps, emails, checklist) for you to review, adjust, and track to done. This is "How decisions and action plans work." See the decision workspace and acting on decisions for how that loop works in full once you're in it.
- 6See where you rank. Introduces Benchmarks: your own numbers next to operators your size, covering margin, how fast you get paid, labor, vendor spend, and more. It notes that every number starts on the industry-typical line and sharpens toward operators like you as more of them join, and that dropping in a document is what puts your line on the board. This is "Where you rank against operators your size." See benchmarks overview and how benchmarks work for the full picture.
Note
This tour is the same content as the one-time welcome tour that runs automatically right after you sign up. The difference is that opening it from Get oriented never marks anything as "seen," so you can rewatch it as many times as you want, without resetting your actual onboarding progress.
How dismissal works
Taking the tour does not remove the card. Close the tour (Skip, Get started, or the modal's own close) and Get oriented is still sitting in your Feed, ready to reopen.
Not now is the only action that retires it. Click it and:
- The card disappears from this session immediately.
- Verinode remembers the dismissal in your browser (not on Verinode's servers), so it will not come back on later visits, even after you refresh or sign back in on the same browser.
- Because that memory lives in the browser rather than your account, dismissing it on desktop web also hides it if you open Feed on mobile web in the same browser, but a different browser or device will still show it until you dismiss it there too.
Note
Get oriented only shows up while you still have onboarding milestones left to complete. Once your account-completeness checklist is fully done, the card stops appearing on new page loads on its own, whether or not you ever clicked Not now.
Heads up
Not now is permanent for that browser. If you dismiss the card and later want to see it again on the same device, there is no in-app "replay" toggle for the card itself, only the tour it opened, which stays reachable for as long as your app shell keeps its own entry point available. Treat Not now as final before you click it.
Empty states and edge cases
- First paint. On load, the card briefly renders nothing while Verinode checks whether you already dismissed it on this browser. This avoids a flash where the card appears and then vanishes. If your browser blocks that check (private browsing, storage quota, or storage disabled), Verinode treats it as "not dismissed" and shows the card; dismissing it in that same session will not persist, so it may reappear on your next visit.
- Filter scope. Get oriented only ever shows on the All filter. Switching to Decisions, Articles, or any other filter pill hides it along with the welcome card and Tune your feed; it is not a separate item you can filter to.
- Order relative to Tune your feed. Both are first-run cards that can appear together early on. Get oriented always sits above Tune your feed in the stack, so you reach the orientation content before the three quick preference questions.
