What the headcount hero shows

The Workforce page opens on one panel: a single headcount number, a role-mix breakdown underneath it, and three secondary tiles for tenure, open incidents, and OSHA-recordable history. This is the hero, the first thing every HQ user sees before scrolling into the risk rows below it. It exists to answer one question in under two seconds: is the network's staffing and safety picture calm, or does it need attention this week.

Verinode does not manage your franchisees' staff. It reads the team records, hire and review dates, and incident logs that franchisees have already entered, rolls them up across the network, and shows HQ the pattern. HQ sees the aggregate and the per-franchisee counts needed for oversight; it does not see an individual employee's personnel file, pay, or a franchisee's private business data outside this workforce and safety view.

Where to find it

Open Workforce from the HQ sidebar. It sits in the Network group, alongside Network and Leaderboard, a group that stays open rather than folding, because the network is HQ's core object. The direct URL is hq.verinode.ai/team.

The page itself is titled "Workforce" (the browser tab and page header both read this), even though the underlying feature is internally called "Team." Franchisee staff are not the franchisor's own team, so the network-facing label stays neutral for every audience that lands on this page, whether they think of the sidebar item as franchisees, locations, or offices.

The hero panel is the first row on the page. It has no title of its own, no border, and no click target: it is a read-at-a-glance summary, not a button. Everything below it, the Understaffed, Safety Risk, Bench Depth, Team Reviews, Work Style, and Team by Franchisee rows, is where you click into a specific franchisee.

The headline: active members

The big number in the hero is active members, the count of team members currently marked active across every franchisee in your network. It counts up on load rather than appearing instantly, the same animated-tile pattern used across every HQ hero panel.

The eyebrow above it reads "NETWORK HEADCOUNT" in small caps. This headline counts people, not franchisees, so a network of 12 franchisees with 8 team members each reads 96 here, not 12.

The pill: franchisee count and network tone

Beside the headline sits a pill, a small colored label. Its text is straightforward: it reads "N franchisees" (singular "franchisee" when N is 1), where N is the number of franchisees in your network that have at least one team member on record. If no franchisee anywhere in the network has registered any team members yet, the pill instead reads "No team data yet."

The pill's color, its tone, is the one piece of this panel that is doing more than labeling a count. It reflects the network's current safety load, computed from two numbers added together: open incidents across the network, plus OSHA-recordable incidents over the trailing 36 months. That combined total sets the tone in four steps:

  • Zero combined incidents: the pill reads in the "expand" tone (green). Nothing open, nothing recordable in the window.
  • A handful (more than zero, up to three): the pill reads in a plain, uncolored tone, neither warm nor alarmed. A small number of incidents, not yet a pattern.
  • A moderate load (four to ten): the pill shifts to the "maintain" tone (amber), a level that reads as worth watching.
  • Ten or more: the pill shifts to the "analyse" tone (red), the same red used for the platform's most urgent signal type. This is the threshold where the safety picture across the network needs an HQ-level look, not just franchisee-level attention.

Tip

Read the pill before you read anything else on this page. It compresses the entire network's safety load into one color, and it changes as incidents open, close, or age past 36 months. A pill that has shifted from green to amber since your last visit is your cue to open the Safety Risk row below the hero and see which franchisee moved.

The subtext line: role-mix composition

Directly under the headline sits a plain-language sentence spelling out the role mix behind the headcount. When the network has team data, it reads in this exact pattern:

"N total · N FTE · N contractor · N techs · N leadership · N admin."

Each figure is a network-wide sum across every franchisee:

  • Total, every team member on record, active or not (this is the only figure on the hero that includes inactive members; the headline above counts active only).
  • FTE, full-time employees.
  • Contractor, contracted or 1099 workers rather than employees.
  • Techs, technicians, the field crew doing restoration work.
  • Leadership, owners, general managers, and other leadership-tier roles.
  • Admin, office and administrative staff.

These five role counts are drawn from however each franchisee has classified its own team members; Verinode does not reclassify anyone, it sums whatever role each franchisee assigned.

The three secondary tiles

To the right of the headline, three smaller tiles stack the panel's supporting numbers. Each animates in slightly after the headline (staggered over roughly a second), so they read as a sequence rather than all landing at once.

Avg tenure

The weighted average tenure, in years, across every active team member network-wide. It is weighted by each franchisee's active headcount, so a large franchisee's tenure pulls the network average more than a small one's. The tile displays this as a whole-number year count (a franchisee-level average of, say, 4.3 years shows as 4 on this tile); the sub-label underneath reads "Weighted years."

If no franchisee has hire dates on record for its active team yet, the tile shows a dash instead of a number, and the sub-label reads "Awaiting hire dates."

Open incidents

The count of currently open incidents across the network, in the platform's alert-red tone when greater than zero, or green when zero. The sub-label underneath depends on whether the network has headcount targets configured:

  • If at least one franchisee has a target headcount set, this reads the network's aggregate staffing position against those targets: "+N under target" when the network is short, or "Network at target" when it is not short (at or above target).
  • If no franchisee has a target headcount configured anywhere in the network, it falls back to the plain label "Across the network."

OSHA 36mo

The count of OSHA-recordable incidents logged across the network over the trailing 36 months. Amber when greater than zero, green at zero. The sub-label always reads "OSHA-recordable incidents (rolling)," a reminder that this is a moving 36-month window, not a lifetime count, so an old incident eventually rolls off.

What sits below the hero

The hero is the summary; the rows beneath it are where you act on it. Below the hero, the Workforce page stacks: Understaffed (franchisees short of their target headcount), Safety Risk (franchisees with open incidents or OSHA-recordable history, each tile also showing that franchisee's OSHA rate per 100 FTE against the network median), Bench Depth (franchisees one vacation away from a leadership, admin, or technician staffing gap), Team Reviews (franchisees overdue on a team review), Work Style (a staff-profile row), and Team by Franchisee (every franchisee with team data, browsable directly). Clicking any tile in these rows opens that franchisee's detail. The hero panel itself does not link anywhere; it sets the context for everything you're about to click into.

Empty states

If no franchisee in the network has registered any team members, the hero adapts as a whole:

  • The pill reads "No team data yet" instead of a franchisee count.
  • The subtext line replaces the role-mix breakdown entirely with: "Team data will appear as franchisees register their team members."
  • The headline still shows a plain 0, and the OSHA and incident tiles show 0 in their green, no-incident state, since a network with no team data also has no incidents to report.

This is not a broken page. It means franchisees have not yet entered team records into Verinode. As franchisees register members, hire dates, and role classifications, every figure in this panel fills in on its own, no action is needed from HQ to unlock it.

Note

The avg tenure tile can show "Awaiting hire dates" even when the rest of the hero is fully populated. Tenure depends specifically on hire-date data, which some franchisees may not have entered yet even if they've registered active team members with roles.

How to use it

  1. 1Glance at the pill color first. Green means the network's combined incident load is at zero; anything past a plain, uncolored pill means incidents are accumulating and worth a closer look.
  2. 2Read the headline and subtext together. The headline is active headcount; the subtext's role mix tells you whether that headcount leans technician-heavy, leadership-heavy, or admin-light across the network.
  3. 3Check avg tenure against what you'd expect for the network. A dropping weighted average, read over repeat visits, can be an early signal of turnover before it shows up anywhere else.
  4. 4If open incidents or OSHA 36mo are non-zero, scroll to the Safety Risk row. It breaks the network total back down to the specific franchisees carrying it, with each one's OSHA rate benchmarked against the network median.
  5. 5If the pill reads "No team data yet," there is nothing to investigate yet, the network simply hasn't registered team records. Revisit once franchisees start using Workforce on their own side.

Best-practice example

Say the pill reads amber and the subtext shows "142 total · 98 FTE · 12 contractor · 74 techs · 18 leadership · 12 admin." Open incidents reads 6 with "+4 under target" underneath, and OSHA 36mo reads 3. That combined total of 9 (6 open incidents plus 3 OSHA-recordable) is why the pill sits in the amber, moderate-load band rather than green. Scroll to Safety Risk and Understaffed: the same one or two franchisees are very likely showing up in both, a franchisee running short-staffed is also the one most likely to be absorbing overtime and incident risk. That overlap, not the headline number, is the actionable read.
